Petition against extending parking charges

pay_here_400px.jpgDorset Council is trying to rush through a series of proposals to raise extra money from local car parks.

This includes charging between 6pm and 8pm from Monday to Saturday and daytime on Sunday.  The daily rate for some car parks, including those in Bridport and Lyme Regis, is proposed to double.

Lib Dem Councillors believe that these proposals have not been thought through and will damage local businesses at a time when they need help.

We are also concerned that these new charges will increase parking in nearby residential streets where parking is currently free.  Even in those streets that have residents parking schemes they usually don’t operate on Sunday or after 6pm on other days.

I call on Dorset Council to withdraw their plans to extend car parking charges to include 6pm to 8pm in the evening and daytime on Sunday.
