In only 8 weeks time parents will be able to share up to 50 weeks of Parental Leave. This is an incredible step as it means285,000 working couples a year are expected to be eligible for Shared Parental Leave.
Ros Kayes our PPC, says that: "Although it might be a rough step for those employers on the front line - it is a necessary that we have shift in culture which enables fathers to take an equal role in childcare without fear of repercussions from their bosses."
Several companies, such as Civil Service and Deloitte, have already embraced schemes to bring paternal leave in line with maternal leave packages. Companies will receive the benefit in terms of staff loyalty and the freedom of women to return to work if they want to.
