Liberal Democrats Demand Better for Dorset

Dorset Liberal Democrats are offering a new Vision for a new Dorset Council.

We will create a Council that Listens. A new Council that devolves power, decision-making and finance to our towns and parishes, that puts fairness for all of Dorset’s residents at the heart of what it does and that recognises we must do far more to protect and enhance our environment.

The Conservatives have spent recent years cutting valuable services that our residents need, slashing the bus network and increasing rural isolation, undermining our libraries and youth services and attacking budgets that support special needs children and families. They have allowed our public toilets to get into a disgraceful condition. Austerity has gone too far and must be brought to an end.

Giving the NHS the Funding it Needs

The Liberal Democrats are determined to give the NHS the funding it needs to secure its future. 

New Lib Dem policy has been written by ten health and social care specialists, including former chief executives of NHS England, the Royal College of Nursing and the Patients Association.  The timing could not be more significant given the Conservatives postponed more than 50,000 operations just last month.

NHS Changes Under Fire

For months Lib Dem Councillors, including Andy Canning and Ros Kayes, have been campaigning against local NHS plans for cuts and closures. Now, this week, Dorset's Health Scrutiny Committee has unanimously agreed to refer the proposed reorganisation of Dorset's health service in Dorset CCG's Clinical Services Review to the Secretary of State for Health for independent review. The referral is being made on the basis of the proposal not being in the interests of the health service under section 11 of the 2000 Health Act.
