Vital bus services scrapped: take action now

Residents in West Dorset are being left stranded since First Wessex cancelled early morning and late evening bus services during winter. The popular X51 and X53 route connecting Bridport and Lyme Regis with Weymouth and Dorchester is a lifeline for local people. Vulnerable people - such as young families and the elderly - are particularly affected and are being forced to fund and run their own public transport services as replacements.

This is not acceptable.

West Dorset Liberal Democrats believe that we should be looking to increase public transport rather than reduce it. With a declared Climate Emergency and already inadequate local transport services, this decision will have a significant negative impact for local people whose everyday lives depend on it.

Public transport is crucial for many who use these services to access work, local shops, family and vital services such as medical centres.

We the undersigned call on First Wessex and Dorset Council to seek a solution and reinstate this service which is vital to so many in West Dorset.
