Call for Personal, Social and Health Education to be compulsory

We need compulsory Personal, Social and Health Education in all our schools.

In our manifesto plans children in state-funded schools, including free schools and academies will be taught a curriculum for life which includes age appropriate sex and relationship education.

Currently most schools teach PSHE, however their is no obligation to do so. But a recent report by the Commons Education Committee calls for all schools to be under an obligation to teach students about vital issues such as consent.

Ros Kayes, our PPC, says: "Without good quality education on sex and relationships, the result is that students rely on playground gossip and internet pornography. The report shows that the Conservatives, in their refusal to make PSHE compulsory, are out of date and squeamish. Proper education is necessary to inform and empower all young people."
