Lib Dems to introduce Young Person's Bus Pass

A proposal has been set out which would see all 16-21 year olds would be given a Young Person’s Bus Pass. It would help young people with the cost of travel by offering a minimum two thirds discount on bus travel in England. Bus companies would then be able to add their own discounts on top of that.

Liberal Democrats plan to pay for it in part by abolishing free TV licenses and Winter Fuel Payments to pensioners who qualify as higher rate taxpayers.

Ros Kayes, our candidate has commended the proposal saying:

"This is an absolutely fantastic initiative, cutting the cost of travel for young people will be an immense help for families. In particular it will help young people access options for post-16 education especially in West Dorset where colleges and schools are so spread out. Furthermore, the savings made to pay for this are fair as the come about by taxing those who can afford it.

That said, there is obviously a problem with young people using this service in West Dorset if our bus services are cut. Which is why I am fighting to save bus services throughout the constituency. Sign our bus petition if you want to save vital services."
