It has been revealed today in the Daily Echo - that a record number of businesses have been set up in West Dorset last year and that, after Bournemouth and Poole, West Dorset was the area with the highest number of new businesses.
Ros Kayes, our PPC, has said: "This is excellent news. The fact that West Dorset is only second to the commercial hub proves that the recovery is reaching us in rural areas." She then added "However, this is not enough. We need to make sure that the businesses don't close down in the first few years. The way to do this is to make sure that funding does reach rural areas. Particularly here in West Dorset, where the work is so seasonal - businesses need support during the lean months when the tourists aren't around. This is why I am campaigning on a Rural Bill of Rights to get funding from central government in order to address the problems unique to rural areas!"
