Jo Jones

Jo Jones is the Chairman of the Sherborne Branch of the Liberal Democrats. Jo has a great affinity with the area, having moved from Pimperne, north of Blandford Forum, to Yetminster almost 15 years ago. Both her father and grandfather are buried at Lyme Regis, and, despite travelling widely over the years, she is always glad to return “home” to Dorset.

Jo’s Welsh husband, John, is a professional French Horn player and regularly plays in local concerts in addition to teaching all brass instruments in the area.

Both her sons were born in Dorchester and have lived in Yetminster for the vast majority of their lives. As one of the youngest qualified football referees in the country, Jonathan can often be found at the Rec in Yetminster or further afield working for the Yeovil & District and Perry Street Leagues. He is presently studying at Richard Huish College, Taunton. Benjamin seems to be following in his father’s footsteps, often playing Horn in local concerts, when not studying for his A-levels at Wells Cathedral School, where he is a Music Specialist.

Before having her two sons, Jo obtained Advanced Qualifications as a Financial Consultant and acted as Treasurer to her local Youth Club. When John was made redundant as the AJSM closed due to Ministry of Defence cuts, he became a House Husband while Jo returned to teaching. Moving to Yetminster so as to be nearer work, Jo was elected Parent Governor at St Andrew’s School, Yetminster, while her children were there. While a Director of Music and then Deputy Head, at The Park School, Yeovil, she became familiar with handling staff, pupils and parents and acting as negotiator between parties. Having taught pupils aged 3 to 80 she is at ease with handling people from all walks of life, and is currently training as a Local Preacher in the Methodist Church Circuit.

In May 2005, Jo was approached by the BBC to be interviewed live by Kirsty Wark on the Newsnight election special. She is quite prepared to speak out about issues that affect the community, and would be happy to discuss any topic which you feel is important. If you wish to meet her to raise your concerns, please feel free to contact her by telephone on 01935 873472 or email on JoJonesMoreys@aol.com.
